Ever wanted to give your beaded jewellery designs a little something extra? Why not try experiment with wire, and twist some simple little spirals. These wire spirals look great at the end of a bead for a cute drop-earring or use a lot of spiral twists together to make a unique bracelet. The possibilities really are endless with these twist spirals.

To start all you need is a pair of round nose pliers and some wire. Cut a piece of the wire in the length you want. Remember to add about 2-3cms to that length for the spiral part. For this tutorial the length I am using is around 4 cms in total, giving me just enough for a spiral and loop head.

Start by twisting the end of the wire into a loop, commonly known as a loop head or headpin.

Once you have twisted a loop into the end, using your other hand continue to twist the wire around the loop to form the spiral.

Once you are finished the spiral, make sure there is enough wire on the other end to loop back into a headpin. If you want to dangle a bead on the twist before looping the end make sure the wire left over is long enough.
Here I am not using a bead for the end.

Using the round-nose pliers, twist the wire into a loop in the opposite direction of the spiral.

Now you have finished the quick and easy spiral twist. Make a few more spirals, attach them to a jump ring and perhaps some beads and you have a unique piece of jewellery to show off to your friends.

I’d love to see some of your creations using this technique!

Hi, Great tutorial. For some reason, the simple loop is the most difficult thing for me to master. Thanks for putting craftydaisies on your blogroll. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your craftwork.
